As I’ve gotten deeper into vintage buying and selling, I’m discovering new ways to incorporate vintage pieces into my everyday life and décor and I thought I'd share some ideas.
Depending on the size and shape, most every vintage bowl, vase, and mug can be used as one or more of the following:
--Planters for small plants and succulents (just put a layer of stones on the bottom for drainage since they won’t have a drainage hole)
--Bird feeders or bird baths
--Candy/nut/ snack dishes or bowls
--Trinket or catch-all dishes for your bedroom, bathroom, and/or entryway table
--Bathroom organizers to hold soaps, toiletries, make-up, and/or hair ties and clips
--Kitchen organizers to hold various utensils or act as spoon rests
--Desk organizers to hold pens and pencils, paper clips, and other office supplies
--Centerpiece bowls for fruit or art pieces on your dining table or mantle
Vintage plates, also depending on the size:
--Underplates for potted plants (pedestal cake stands make great plant stands too)
--Underplates for candles
--Decorative wall hangings
--Actually eating off of them! Mixing and matching dinnerware makes for a fun table setting and will bring you more joy than you’d think. Use them for appetizer or dinner plates at your next party to make it easy for guests to keep track of their own plate.
So, the next time you see a vintage piece you love (preferably in my shop, he he) but aren’t sure what you’d do with it—refer to the above suggestions and bring it home with you! I’ve only regretted the pieces I loved and didn’t buy.
Below are a couple pieces I have repurposed: A figurative mug as a windowsill planter and an open sugar bowl as a sweetener packet holder. It also helps that my green formica kitchen counters are already vintage!
